On the southern edge of Celadon, far from the noises of the Game Corner, lies a sole small tree marking a path in a forested wall; the short grassy road leads to a large greenhouse with the words “Celadon Gym” printed on it.
The plants in the greenhouse are tended to by the gym trainers, a mostly female group of grass-type specialists, many of whom stayed while the gym switched hands many times just to stay with their plants. They speak of an ambitious project by the gym leader to make a separate arena for battle, and direct coming challengers to the hole in the ground to their left as they come in. Lanterns are handed out to those sure that they want to challenge the leader, unless they wish to use their own Pokémon’s Flash.
The underground passage goes on for a short while. It never turns and is clear of debris as a courtesy to the challenger, though the path is pitch-black. A light at the end shows where the leader’s arena is and, as they step forward, challengers see the light is from a large hole in the ceiling, exposing the cavern to the surrounding forests and weather.
“I trust you’re here for my badge?” the figure at the far end asks. “Sorry you had to come all the way down here, but I didn’t really wish to fight in that greenhouse… This place makes for a far better battlefield, don’t you think?” The figure steps out into the light to show himself; he proceeds to brush off dust from his dark outfit and dons a black fedora. “Name’s Siless. My Pokémon like it here; they can play around or train in the forest while waiting for challengers, and the battlefield suits them just fine.”
Siless flashes out a piece of metal in the form of a many-colored flower. “You wish to have this Rainbow Badge? Then I, Siless, as leader of Celadon Gym, accept your challenge!”
